Our History…

In 2014, Chaka Lindsey founded Shop Talk Live in the DMV. With Chaka’s blessing Theo Wilson and Quincy Hines created a Denver, CO branch.  Shop Talk Live is built on community involvement and open forums to promote discussions and healing to repair broken relationships and community engagement.

PURPOSE

In order to reconstruct the relationship, wealth, and self-reliance agency capabilities of Black people in the cities, counties and states we serve, Shop Talk Live will use a restorative approach.  We will promote and endorse the use of asset-based solution-oriented thinking to motivate residents of our communities to inventively address and resolve the challenges the face organically.  Based on their historical value in Black communities, we are using barber and beauty shops as safe-zones for gathering and think-tanking for the development of effective action driven solutions.  Within these safe-zone frameworks, networks of barber and beauty shop owners, patrons, and community partners will lay the foundation for adequately addressing the necessary social customariness all Americans are entitled to; equality in opportunities for economic growth and participatory contribution to foster political self-sufficiency.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe by empowering people through discussions we have in barber shops, beauty salons, forums and through media venues we are able to repair relationships which ultimately unify our communities.

OUR GOAL:

Shop Talk Live will spearhead the development and establishment of Community Derived Enterprises and Coalitions of Voluntary Stakeholders working in collaboration with employers, educational institutions, and other public and private organizations to improve community conditions affecting employ-ability.  We will accomplish this by:
